Overview
Epic Games needed a brand for Rocket Racing, a new mode launching inside one of the biggest games in the world. We Are Royale won the pitch in 2023, and as lead designer I was responsible for the helping our Art Director exectue his vision and create the full visual system. The pitch included a wildcard direction I created — a brand rooted in real motorsport culture, grittier and more editorial than the Fortnite universe typically allows. The client loved it but ultimately needed something that lived more naturally inside Fortnite. What shipped was a complete, cohesive system built for that world — logo, key art in multiple formats, car showcase graphics, featured item UI, and every visual asset the launch needed. Both directions are worth showing. One is the swing. One is the product seen by millions of players on day one.
The wildcard
A motorsport brand rooted in real racing culture
The wildcard direction came from a personal place. As someone who grew up obsessed with motorsport culture, I wanted to explore what Rocket Racing could look like if it leaned into that world for real — specifically drift culture, with all its raw energy, technical obsession, and underground credibility. The result was a brand system that felt less like a game mode and more like a genuine racing property: editorial type treatments, race-worn textures, technical data overlays, and a palette pulled from the pit lane rather than the Fortnite color wheel. It was a deliberate push to take Epic somewhere they hadn't been before.

The Decision
The client loved the energy but needed something that lived inside the Fortnite universe. They went with this other direction that ended up working really well within the existing Fortnite brand.
Result
Rocket Racing launched as part of Fortnite in December 2023 to a massive built-in audience.
